Altdahn Castle, Rock castle in Dahn, Germany.
Standing at 337 meters above sea level, Altdahn Castle extends over 100 meters across two large sandstone outcrops in the Palatinate Forest.
The castle, constructed in early 1200s, underwent multiple destructions, including conflicts with Fleckensteins in 1363 and French troops in 1689 during the War of Palatine Succession.
The castle ruins feature horseshoe-shaped turrets, remnants of a palas, and a watchtower, representing medieval German defensive architecture in the Rhineland-Palatinate region.
Visitors can access the castle through the northeast entrance, where parts of the original gateway and water-filled neck ditch remain visible.
The structure belongs to a group of three adjacent castles, including Grafendahn and Tanstein, forming a defensive line along a single rocky ridge.
