Emsdetten, Urban municipality in Steinfurt district, Germany.
Emsdetten is a town in Steinfurt district in North Rhine-Westphalia that stretches along the Ems river across roughly 72 square kilometers (about 28 square miles). The town divides into eight districts and sits at an elevation of around 45 meters (150 feet) above sea level.
The settlement received town rights in 1843 and grew from a small place into a proper urban center. The textile industry shaped development for many decades before the town shifted to other economic activities.
The name comes from the Ems river that runs through the town and once powered mills and local workshops. Today people walk and cycle along the water where families gather on warm days.
The town is easy to reach by car or public transport and sits between Münster and Rheine on main routes. All districts connect by bus lines so you can move around without your own vehicle.
Old factory buildings by the river were converted into cultural spaces and kept their industrial architecture. The brick walls and tall windows recall the time when textiles were still made here.
