Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, Prussian fortress on Rhine riverbank in Koblenz, Germany
The fortress stands 118 meters above the Rhine River, providing views over the meeting point of Rhine and Moselle rivers in Koblenz.
The structure originated in 1000 when nobleman Ehrenbert constructed a castle, which later became property of the Archbishop of Trier in the 11th century.
The Koblenz State Museum within the fortress presents exhibitions about technology, archaeology, and military history through multimedia installations and artifact displays.
Visitors reach the fortress via a cable car from Koblenz, which operates daily and includes access to multiple exhibition spaces and viewing platforms.
The fortress houses Europe's largest cannon from its era, the Vogel Greif, which remains as evidence of its military significance.

Military buildings from different countries demonstrate the evolution of defense structures and command centers across centuries. This collection includes medieval castles, early modern fortifications, barracks, command posts, and contemporary military installations. Each structure documents the military strategies, technological advances, and historical events of its era. The sites range from European fortress systems such as Vauban fortifications in France to Asian defensive walls and American military bases from various periods. Many of these structures played critical roles in wars and conflicts and are now accessible as monuments or museums. They provide insights into military architecture, engineering practices, and the strategic importance of their locations.
Rhineland-Palatinate contains historical structures and natural landmarks. Eltz Castle stands above Moselle Valley, while Limburg Monastery displays Romanesque architecture. Pyrmont Castle sits by a waterfall. Teufelsfels rises in Hunsrück, customs fortress Pfalzgrafenstein controls the Rhine, and Frankenstein Castle shows medieval walls.
