Schöttelkarspitze

Schöttelkarspitze, Mountain summit in Karwendel range, Bavaria, Germany

The Schöttelkarspitze is a mountain summit in the Karwendel range that rises to 2050 meters and features rocky terrain with several hiking routes. The landscape combines steep slopes with open areas that offer views across the alpine valley.

In the 19th century, King Ludwig II had a mountain pavilion built at the summit as his personal retreat. The structure was later destroyed by fire, yet its brief existence left a mark on the mountain's history.

The trails here reflect traditional Bavarian engineering, with unusually wide paths that were specifically designed to accommodate royal sedan chairs and their carriers.

The summit can be reached via marked routes from Krün or Wallgau, with Soiernhaus serving as a starting point. The trails require sturdy footwear and moderate fitness, and the rocky terrain can become slippery in wet conditions.

The mountain contains significant geological formations from the Triassic period and is primarily composed of Main Dolomite rock structures. These rock formations are a fascinating example of alpine stone creation for those interested in geology.
