Schriesheim is a town in the Rhein-Neckar region situated on the western edge of Odenwald along the Kanzelbach river. It lies approximately 14 kilometers east of Mannheim and 8 kilometers north of Heidelberg, covering 31 square kilometers with around 15,000 residents.
The town suffered heavily during the Thirty Years' War and lost many inhabitants. This upheaval reshaped the population, which later became predominantly Protestant Reformed.
