The castle remains stand on a hill spur at 400 meters elevation, featuring foundations of a gate structure and sections of ring walls.
The original Hirschburg castle was constructed at the beginning of the 12th century by the noble Hirschberg family on the Schanzenköpfle hilltop.
The site represents a significant example of medieval defensive architecture in the Baden-Württemberg region, with its strategic position overlooking the Rhine plain.
Multiple hiking trails connect to the castle ruins through the Naturpark Neckartal-Odenwald, with red benches placed at the summit for visitors.
The castle plateau measures 30 by 35 meters, surrounded by a ring wall and a moat system that extends along three sides of the promontory.
