Schloss Wiser, Renaissance and Baroque château in Hirschberg an der Bergstraße, Germany
Schloss Wiser is a Renaissance and Baroque castle in Hirschberg an der Bergstraße. The estate includes a main residence, a chapel, side wing, and carriage house, all decorated with Italian-inspired architectural details.
The castle was built between 1710 and 1715 as a summer residence for Count Ferdinand Andreas von Wiser. Architect Johann Jacob Rischer oversaw the project, introducing Italian architectural style to the region.
The chapel on the grounds served as a pilgrimage destination for centuries, drawing people seeking spiritual connection. Its role in the local religious life remains visible in the annual processions that still take place.
The castle has been private property of the Wiser family since 1800 and cannot be visited inside. You can only view the architecture from the street and public areas surrounding the estate.
The Black Madonna of Leutershausen once resided in the castle chapel but was moved to St. Johannes Baptist Church in 1907. This relocation shifted the spiritual focus of the grounds to nearby locations.
