St. Blasien

St. Blasien is a spa town in the southern Black Forest at about 770 meters elevation, nestled within dense coniferous forests. It offers thermal baths and rehabilitation facilities that specialize in respiratory treatments.

A Benedictine monastery shaped the town's origins from the 9th century onward and became an important regional center. The monastery complex later changed function and housed industrial production facilities starting in the early 1800s.

The neoclassical dome church dominates the town's character and draws visitors with its distinctive shape. This religious building remains central to local identity and community life today.

The thermal baths offer temperatures between 32 and 37 degrees Celsius and are designed to provide relaxation and recovery for visitors. The town is easily walkable, and its proximity to hiking trails makes it a good starting point for exploring the surrounding forests.

An early German engineering workshop opened in the former monastery buildings in the early 1800s and became a source of important innovations for many years. This blend of religious tradition and early industrialization shapes the town's identity to this day.
