The division specialized in rapid deployment operations with paratroopers and combat support units capable of engaging in various terrain conditions.
Established on January 1, 1956, as the ninth division of the Bundeswehr, it operated until March 31, 1994, when its tasks transferred to Kommando Luftbewegliche Kräfte.
The division maintained rigorous training standards for parachute operations and developed specialized tactics for airborne infantry deployment across different environments.
Located at General-Dr. Speidel-Kaserne, the division conducted operations with transport aircraft and helicopters for maximum mobility and tactical flexibility.
During its service, the division participated in humanitarian missions, including assistance during the 1961 Agadir earthquake and support for Kurdish refugees in 1991.
