Berghof, Country house in Germany
Berghof was a country house in the Obersalzberg area of the Bavarian Alps near Berchtesgaden, built in the style of a Swiss chalet. The structure sat on a mountainside and featured a large terrace that overlooked the surrounding peaks and valleys.
The building was first constructed in 1916 as a private residence and later underwent major renovation. During World War II it was destroyed by bombing and subsequently demolished.
Berghof became a hub of Third Reich power during its last decade.
The site sits on a mountainside and is accessible by foot, though sturdy footwear is recommended. Today only the foundation walls and a small information center remain on the grounds.
The property was known for its commanding views of the surrounding mountains from its expansive terrace. Its position high on a mountainside made it an isolated location, removed from larger settlements below.
