Zeltinger Sonnenuhr

Zeltinger Sonnenuhr is a vineyard location on steep terraces along the Mosel River with slate-rich soils and a south-southwest facing slope. The terrain rises at angles close to 70 percent, which shapes how the vines are arranged and maintained.

The vineyard developed as part of the Mosel wine region and received its name in 1842 when Jodocus Prüm installed a sundial on the slopes. This timekeeping device served local residents between Wehlen and Zeltingen and gave the location its distinctive name.

The name comes from a sundial that once marked time on these slopes and became a symbol of the place. Today, visitors notice how traditional Riesling production reflects the particular character of the slate-rich soil in every bottle.

The location sits on a steep slope with restricted access, and sturdy footwear is essential for exploring the terraces. Spring and autumn are ideal times to visit, when work in the vineyard is visible and the weather remains stable.

Some vines here are over 100 years old and grow on one of Germany's steepest vineyards. These ancient plants produce concentrated mineral flavors and dense taste profiles that develop nowhere else in the same way.
