Nuremberg tram system, Tram system in Nuremberg, Germany.

The Nuremberg tram system is a public transit network with seven lines connecting neighborhoods across the city and surrounding areas. The system covers approximately 39 kilometers and links residential districts, commercial zones, and leisure destinations.

The network began in 1881 with horse-drawn trams and switched to electric power by 1898. This transition marked the shift toward modern transportation in the region.

The network connects residential neighborhoods with commercial districts, educational institutions, and entertainment venues throughout the Bavarian metropolitan area.

Trams run frequently and connect easily with buses and the U-Bahn through a single ticket system. Travelers can board and exit at various stops throughout the network and combine their journey with other transit options.

The system used an unusual track gauge of 1,432 millimeters for decades before being adjusted to the standard 1,435 millimeters in the 1990s. This technical distinction made Nuremberg an exception among European tram networks for many years.
