Markus Wasmeier Freilichtmuseum Schliersee, Open-air museum and brewery in Schliersee, Germany.
The Markus Wasmeier Freilichtmuseum is a private open-air museum on the edge of Neuhaus in Schliersee, Upper Bavaria, covering 60,000 square metres with more than 22 historic Upper Bavarian buildings. Among them are the Riederhof farm from Geitau, preserved as of about 1730, the Lukashof from Finsterwald near Gmund, dating to about 1700, and the large Zum Wofen farm of 1734 from Feldkirchen near Westerham. Dark timber facades, steep snow-covered gabled roofs, balconies and a stone-based two-storey house make up the cluster on the slope.
Markus Wasmeier, a former German alpine ski racer, founded the supporting association in 1997 after being inspired by the open-air museum in Lillehammer, Norway. The first spade cut followed in June 1999, and the museum opened on 1 May 2007, built with sponsor funds. It began with three farms threatened by decay that were moved to the site; today it holds more than 22 historical buildings from the Upper Bavarian region.
The site shows how people lived and worked in Bavaria through active craft stations for pottery, basket weaving, and traditional brewing that visitors can watch. You see spaces where bread was baked in wood ovens and schnapps were made, just as locals did in their daily routines.
The museum is open from April to November; the current descriptions' Tuesday-to-Sunday, 10:00–17:00 hours are not confirmed by the source. The grounds cover 60,000 square metres on the edge of the Neuhaus district, with paths between the relocated buildings. Visitors should plan for outdoor walking between the farmhouses, workshops and chapel.
The kitchen displays from the 1940s to the 1970s belong to the Lukashof, a farm from Finsterwald near Gmund in a state of preservation around 1700, one of the oldest surviving properties from the Tegernsee valley. Its "Strommuseum" traces the electrification of Upper Bavaria and the development of electrical appliances.
