Palasthotel, Former hotel in Berlin, Germany
The Palasthotel was a luxury hotel in Berlin-Mitte located directly next to the Palace of the Republic. The building served as an upscale accommodation option and was a notable landmark in the city's skyline until its demolition.
The hotel was constructed during the German Democratic Republic era and served as a prestige project while Berlin was divided. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall and reunification, the building was demolished in the early 2000s.
The site no longer exists today, but the location can be visited from Unter den Linden, where the hotel once stood. Information about the place's history can be found in nearby museums and memorial sites throughout the Mitte district.
The hotel was known for being preferred by journalists and Western visitors because it was one of the few accommodation options with Western standards available in East Germany. This position made it an intriguing vantage point for observing the contradictory mood of the divided city.
