The circular rampart fortification stands on a hill spur northeast of Bad Münstereifel's center, measuring 300 meters long and 80 meters wide.
The defensive structures date back to the 9th century Carolingian period, serving as protection for the daughter monastery of Prüm Abbey.
Archaeological excavations in 1972 revealed decorated pottery fragments from the 9th century, contributing to understanding medieval German fortification practices.
The site extends from 315 to 363 meters above sea level, with remains of a round tower's rubble stone foundation visible in the highest area.
A silver coin depicting Louis the Pious was discovered at the site during the 19th century, although the artifact has since disappeared.
