Abtsrodaer Kuppe, Mountain summit in Hesse, Germany

Abtsrodaer Kuppe is a mountain summit in the Hessian Rhön with an elevation of about 905 meters (2,970 feet). The peak rises above forested slopes and provides views across the surrounding landscape of the region.

The summit is part of the Naturpark Hessische Rhön, a protected area that documents the geological history of the Rhön region. Its formation reflects the volcanic activity that shaped these mountains over time.

The name Abtsrodaer Kuppe refers to the village of Abtsroda, a district of Poppenhausen whose municipal area contains the summit; the alternative form Abtsroder Kuppe is also used. The treeless basalt dome serves as a launch site for paragliders, and hikers on the shared section of the European long-distance trails E3 and E6 between Abtsroda and the Wasserkuppe pass below it.

The summit can be reached on paths and trails starting from the Hochrhönring roads, including the shared section of the European long-distance trails E3 and E6 between Abtsroda and the Wasserkuppe. The summit region belongs to the municipality of Poppenhausen. The open basalt dome is used as a launch site by paragliders.

The rock on the summit displays dark basalt formations that clearly reveal the volcanic origins of the Rhön Mountains. These visible stone layers naturally tell the story of how the region was formed.
