Altes Stadtbad am Wollhausplatz, Public bath building in Heilbronn, Germany
The Altes Stadtbad am Wollhausplatz was a public bathing facility with a large swimming pool and multiple smaller bathing areas housed in a classically designed building. Inside were steam baths, sweating rooms, and different sections to serve various groups of users.
The bath opened in 1892 following designs by Berlin architect Ernst Peters and was a modern amenity for the city at that time. After more than 70 years of operation, it was demolished in 1972 to make room for new urban development.
The building served as a gathering place where people from different social backgrounds came to bathe and relax together. The separate wings for women reflected how privacy mattered in daily life and showed the social customs of that era.
Visitors could use different areas depending on what type of bathing experience they wanted. The facility was centrally located and easily accessible to people from different parts of the city.
An ornamental ceramic fountain featuring dolphin motifs decorated the entrance hall and was a special handcrafted piece. The fountain was created by two artists and gave the hall an elegant appearance.
