Agfa Foto-Historama, Photo archive and library in Museum Ludwig, Cologne, Germany
The Agfa Foto-Historama is a photo collection and media library housed within Museum Ludwig containing over 12,000 photographs spanning different eras. The collection also includes about 3,000 photography books and approximately 20,000 cameras that document how photographic technology changed over time.
The collection was founded in 1906 by Erich Stenger and acquired by Agfa in 1949. It became part of Museum Ludwig's photography department in 2005.
The collection displays works by notable photographers such as Hugo Erfurth, whose portrait series are featured throughout. Visitors can trace how photography evolved as an artistic medium through different styles and techniques.
The collection can be viewed Tuesday through Friday from 10 AM to 6 PM and on weekends from 11 AM to 6 PM. It is worth checking ahead to see if special exhibitions or guided tours are being offered.
The collection houses the Dubroni Nr. 1, regarded as the first instant camera. Also on view is an impressive two-part panorama of Istanbul from 1880.
