Kellersee

Kellersee is a large glacial lake in the Holstein Switzerland region with a surface area around 560 hectares and maximum depths of 27 meters. Forested hills rise from its shoreline, creating sheltered bays and an varied landscape around the water's edge.

This lake formed during the last ice age when glaciers carved deep basins and shaped the surrounding landscape. Glacial activity created the steep shorelines and multiple bays that remain visible today.

Certain bays such as Mondschein Bay and Stille Bay freeze later than the rest of the lake, creating distinct ice patterns during winter months. These differences occur due to local water movement and the shape of the shoreline.
