Eutin, District capital in Ostholstein, Germany.
Eutin is a town in the Ostholstein district of Schleswig-Holstein, surrounded by several lakes including Grosser and Kleiner Eutiner See. Woodland and meadows alternate around the center, while older brick buildings and narrow lanes shape the inner town.
In the 12th century a market settlement formed here on older Slavic traces near Pheasant Island. The place received town rights in the 13th century and developed as the residence of the prince-bishops of Lübeck.
Carl Maria von Weber grew up near the lake and learned music here, and today a music school carries his name in the town center. On summer evenings the sound of rehearsals often drifts through the streets, connecting present-day activity to the composer's early years.
You can reach the center easily on foot from the railway station and find signposts leading to the lakeshores. In summer you can cycle or walk on paths between the lakes, encountering flat routes.
The place holds a climatic health resort status since 2014 due to the mild breeze from the sea and the wide forests around. Doctors sometimes prescribe stays here for respiratory therapy or recovery after longer illnesses.
