Allied Kommandatura

The Allied Kommandatura is an administrative building in Steglitz-Zehlendorf that served as the main hub for managing Berlin after 1945. It now houses offices and facilities for the Free University of Berlin while retaining the layout from its original period.

The building was established in 1945 as a shared administrative center for the four Allies to direct Berlin's reconstruction. The Soviet withdrawal in 1948 ended this cooperation and marked a turning point in the city's history.

The building displays the straightforward architecture of post-war administrative structures, with clean lines and practical design that still reflects its original purpose. Visitors can sense how the spaces were arranged for meetings and decision-making.
