Garath, Administrative district in southern Düsseldorf, Germany
Garath is a residential district in southern Düsseldorf with predominantly apartment buildings from the post-war period. The area covers a large expanse and is characterized by orderly streets lined with modern building facades.
The area was originally a medieval estate and was first documented in writing during the 13th century. It was incorporated into Düsseldorf through urban planning decisions in the early 20th century and was subsequently developed into a modern residential area.
The district takes its name from a former manor house and presents itself today as a residential area from the post-war period with tall buildings that define the streetscape. The architecture from the 1960s and 1970s created clear, functional structures that still organize the daily life of residents today.
The district is accessible by commuter train and lies near two major highway connections. The area is easy to explore on foot because the streets are clearly structured and there are many pathways.
On the western side, a protected natural landscape borders the district and forms a sharp boundary between city and open nature. This natural zone is a refuge for various plants and animals in close proximity to residential buildings.
