Museum Kunstpalast, Art museum in Düsseldorf, Germany
Museum Kunstpalast is an art museum in Düsseldorf that presents paintings, sculptures, prints, and photographs from classical antiquity through contemporary times. The collection contains over 70,000 works distributed across multiple floors and exhibition rooms.
The institution began in 1710 as part of the Düsseldorf Art Academy and received important donations from Duke Jan Wellem and Anna Maria Luisa de Medici. It grew over the centuries through additional collections and took on its present form.
The Helmut Hentrich Glass Museum inside the building displays glass objects spanning over two millennia from different cultures and periods. Visitors walk through rooms showing pieces from ancient Rome to modern European designer works.
The site opens Tuesday through Sunday from 11:00 to 18:00, with extended hours until 21:00 on Thursdays. Lockers and audio guides are available near the entrance area.
In 2022, the institution returned Franz Marc's painting The Foxes to the heirs of Jewish collector Kurt Grawi. The work had been acquired during the Nazi period under duress.
