Description
Hechingen is a town at the foot of the Swabian Alps in Zollernalbkreis. The municipality includes the center and eight surrounding settlements with residential neighborhoods and industrial areas.
History
The settlement was founded in 1255 as the residence of the Counts of Hohenzollern and remained under their rule until the mid-19th century. Prussia took over administration in 1850 after the principality dissolved.
Culture
The name comes from the Hohenzollern dynasty that ruled here for centuries. Visitors today see half-timbered houses in the old town and weekly markets on the central square.

The old town can be explored on foot, while the outer settlements are reachable by car or bus. Uphill paths lead to the castle on the hill above the center.
