Ebern, Municipality in Haßberge district, Germany.
Ebern is a town in the Haßberge district of Bavaria, located roughly 22 kilometers southwest of Coburg and 23 kilometers northwest of Bamberg. The municipality consists of 18 separate villages spread across approximately 95 square kilometers, with the town center sitting at an elevation of 270 meters.
The settlement dates back roughly 1000 years and retains a complete system of defensive walls surrounding its center. These medieval fortifications still shape the appearance of the historic town core today.
The town's name comes from the Germanic word for boar, an animal that appears on the municipal flag. Local hunting traditions kept this connection alive through the ages.
The town is easy to explore on foot, as the center and older areas are within short walking distances. The surrounding countryside also works well for cycling trips that connect to the castles and villages in the region.
The surrounding area holds several castle ruins, including Schloss Eyrichshof and the remains of Bramberg, Rotenhan, and Raueneck. These scattered fortresses tell of a region once shaped by noble strongholds.
