Angel of Peace, Bronze monument in Bogenhausen district, Munich, Germany

The Angel of Peace rises 38 meters high, featuring a golden statue atop a Corinthian column within the Maximiliansanlagen park at Prinzregentenstraße's eastern end.

The monument commemorates 25 years of peace following the Franco-Prussian War, with its foundation stone placed in 1896 and official inauguration occurring in 1899.

The structure includes gold mosaics depicting war, peace, and victory allegories, along with portraits of German emperors and Bavarian rulers in the base temple.

Visitors can reach the observation deck through two staircases, offering views of Munich's cityscape and architectural landmarks along Prinzregentenstraße.

In 1981, the statue required removal and restoration due to stability concerns, leading to modifications of its wings and leg positioning before reinstallation in 1983.

Explore Munich differently: hidden treasures, unusual museums, secret gardens

Munich can also be explored beyond the usual routes. This collection brings together places where visitors are fewer, but where the city shows itself differently. You’ll find baroque churches like the Asam Church, modern art museums such as Haus der Kunst or Lenbachhaus with its expressionist paintings, and ancient collections in Königsplatz. The city also hides unexpected surprises: the Eisbach wave in the middle of the English Garden, where people surf all year round, the roses in Westpark for a peaceful break, or the royal carriages in Nymphenburg Palace. Some monuments, like the Peace Angel, remind us of lesser-known parts of history. Each place tells a part of Munich that the usual guides don’t mention often.
