Bogenhausen

Bogenhausen is a large residential borough in the northeast of Munich that stretches from the Isar River to the city's outer boundaries. The area is structured around spacious villas, tree-lined streets, and green spaces that give it a quieter character than central Munich.

The area was once a farming village before being incorporated into Munich in 1892, after which it rapidly developed into an affluent residential neighborhood. This transformation brought grand villas and stone-walled properties that still define the district's character today.

The old cemetery here holds the graves of notable Munich figures like writer Erich Kästner and filmmaker Rainer Werner Fassbinder, reflecting the neighborhood's role as home to many culturally important people. Walking through it gives you a sense of how the area attracted creative and influential residents.

The neighborhood connects easily to downtown Munich through various public transportation lines, with journeys typically taking 20 to 25 minutes. Direct access to the U-Bahn and tram network makes getting around this spacious area straightforward.

The Prinzregentenbad functions as an outdoor swimming pool in summer and converts into an ice skating rink during winter, serving two very different purposes. This seasonal transformation allows visitors to enjoy water activities and winter recreation in the same location across the year.
