Roth, District capital in Middle Franconia, Bavaria, Germany.
Roth is a district capital in Middle Franconia that spreads along both banks of the Rednitz river south of Nuremberg. The old town centers around a Renaissance castle and a Protestant church with a late Gothic choir section.
The settlement received its first written mention in 1060 and grew into a wire-making center after Huguenot craftsmen arrived in the 16th century. Industrial growth continued through the 19th century and shaped the economic structure of the community.
The town name comes from forest clearing work that shaped the early settlement. Today residents gather at the market square for weekly events, while the castle hosts concerts and exhibitions throughout the year.
The old town is easy to explore on foot, with short distances between main landmarks. The riverside paths offer pleasant walks and help visitors orient themselves through the center.
The triathlon competition draws athletes from more than 80 countries each year. The jazz and blues festival transforms the downtown into an open-air stage every summer, with performances at multiple locations.
