Schluchsee

Schluchsee is a municipality at 952 meters elevation in the Black Forest, surrounding the region's largest lake. The settlement spreads around this water body with forested slopes on all sides.

The natural glacial lake was transformed in the 1930s through damming, becoming Germany's highest reservoir for power generation. This engineering project shaped the landscape and region's energy infrastructure.

The place preserves Black Forest traditions through local handicrafts and seasonal celebrations that mark the rhythm of community life. Visitors can see how these customs shape the daily activities and gatherings in the area.

A network of about 160 kilometers of marked hiking trails connects the area to major routes like Schwarzwald-Mittelweg. The paths offer different difficulty levels, so hikers can choose based on their abilities.

The Aqua Fun facility blends a water slide and heated pools directly with the natural lake. This mix of recreational structures and natural water is unusual for mountain lakes in the region.
