Matrix is a large nightclub in the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district at Warschauer Straße, situated beneath historic subway arches from the early 1900s. The club spans multiple levels with seven dance floors and six bars, with each floor offering a different music style such as house, techno, hip-hop, or pop.
The club was founded in 1994 and was initially based in the Mitte district before relocating to its current location. Since opening, Matrix has established itself as a center of Berlin's electronic and dance music scene, serving as a venue for pioneering figures and renowned DJs from across Europe.
The name Matrix refers to a futuristic vision of a digital space, fitting perfectly for a club where people gather to dance and express themselves. Visitors use the different floors and areas to find their preferred music style and connect with others, making the place a social gathering spot for Berlin's night culture.
The club is located directly on Warschauer Straße and is easily accessible by S-Bahn or U-Bahn train. Entry is permitted for ages 18 and above, with opening times typically starting around 10 pm and many nights extending into the early morning hours.
The building is housed in historic subway arches over 100 years old, giving the venue an underground appearance. This distinctive architecture creates a mysterious quality that sets the club apart from modern venues and reflects the industrial past of Berlin's East Side.
