Grips-Theater

GRIPS Theater is a theater venue in central Berlin dedicated to productions for young people and families. The building houses multiple performance spaces where shows are regularly created and performed.

The theater started in 1966 as a student group within Berlin's Reichskabarett. It took on its current name in 1972 to highlight its focus on intellectual engagement.

The productions here tackle subjects from the real lives of children and teenagers, moving past traditional fairy tale stories. Audiences see everyday challenges and experiences that young people actually face.

The venue hosts many performances throughout the year and regularly welcomes school groups. Advance planning is wise since seats fill quickly, particularly for family-focused shows.

One early production, a musical about urban youth experiences, became so successful that it was adapted and performed in many countries worldwide. The piece demonstrated how local stories could resonate internationally.
