Sarstedt is a municipality in Hildesheim district, Lower Saxony, situated between Hannover and Hildesheim with an area of about 43 square kilometers. The town spreads across relatively flat terrain at an average elevation of about 64 meters above sea level.
The municipality expanded in 1974 when it incorporated the independent region of Giften, significantly increasing its population and administrative area. This merger established the shape and structure the town maintains today.
