Bad Bodenteich, municipality of Germany
Bad Bodenteich is a market town and recognized health resort in the Lüneburger Heide with around 4,600 residents. The town features a historic water castle with observation tower, a neoclassical brick church with sandstone details, a modern lake park with water features, and several green spaces throughout.
Bad Bodenteich was first documented around 1144 and served as an important court and administrative center under Lüneburg rulers during the Middle Ages. The settlement gained market rights in the 14th century and was officially recognized as a spa town with Kneipp health status in 1998.
The name Bad Bodenteich refers to a former water feature in the landscape that once defined the area. Today the town functions as an active market town with shops, cafes, and restaurants where residents and visitors naturally gather.
The town is easily reached by car via the federal highway and has a train station with regional connections to larger cities. For boaters, the Elbe-Seitenkanal waterway offers moorings and water access in the center of town.
The Dragon Playground in the Seepark was built as a community project and later awarded in a public radio contest. This wooden castle structure emerged from the town's spontaneous initiative to foster community spirit and create a playful space for children and adults alike.
