Spangdahlem Air Base, U.S. Air Force base in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.
Spangdahlem Air Base is a United States Air Force installation in Rhineland-Palatinate, close to the Belgian border. The site holds a main runway 10,000 feet (3,048 meters) long, along with hangars and operational buildings for fighter jets.
The base began operations in September 1952 when the 7352nd Air Base Squadron moved here from Fürstenfeldbruck. Since then, it has served continuously as a forward post for American air forces in Europe.
Military personnel from Spangdahlem Air Base participate in regular exchanges with German communities through local festivals, sports events, and educational programs in the Rhineland-Palatinate area.
The area is a restricted military zone and is not open to the public. Highway A60 runs along the western edge of the installation.
The 52nd Fighter Wing keeps combat aircraft here ready for rapid deployment across Europe and North Africa. The unit conducts regular training flights over the Eifel region and neighboring Luxembourg.
