Himmerod Abbey

Bernard of Clairvaux established Himmerod Abbey in 1135 as a direct branch of Clairvaux Abbey, leading to centuries of monastic presence in the region.

The monastery hosted the Himmerod memorandum conference in 1950, where Wehrmacht officers discussed the foundation of post-war German armed forces.

Visitors can purchase theological literature, abbey beer, monastery liqueur, mustard, and honey products from the on-site store throughout the year.

The monastery maintains a centuries-old fish farming tradition, supplying fresh fish to its restaurant and continuing historical agricultural practices.
