Lehe

Lehe is a rural municipality in Emsland that spreads across open grasslands and farmland. The area is shaped by several waterways, including the Küstenkanal and Ems, which flow through the natural landscape.

The settlement was first documented in 1400 when Herman Griep went before a court to purchase his freedom. This early record shows that a community was already active in this place.

The coat of arms displays an ox head representing farming heritage and a field recalling buckwheat cultivation, practices that shaped the local way of life here.

Visitors find here a quiet rural setting with meadows along the Ems and easy access via the B70 road. The area is good for walking and exploring the natural landscape.

The Heart of Jesus Church was completed in 1914 and stands along the B70 after residents fought for years to build it. The building symbolizes the fulfillment of the community's long-held wish.
