St. Nicholas Church, Gothic church in Leipzig, Germany
The St. Nicholas Church combines Gothic and Baroque architectural elements, featuring a 75-meter tower and a Neoclassical interior design from the late 18th century.
The church began construction in 1165 after Leipzig received city charter rights and underwent Gothic transformation during the early 16th century.
Johann Sebastian Bach served as music director from 1723 to 1750, premiering numerous musical works within these stone walls.
Visitors can join guided tours on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 5:00 PM, with additional Saturday tours at 11:00 AM for 5 euros.
The church gained international recognition as the starting point of Monday demonstrations in 1989, which contributed to East Germany's peaceful revolution.
