Goethestraße 1, Cultural heritage monument at Goethestrasse 1, Leipzig, Germany
The Königsbau building occupies a corner position at the intersection of Goethestrasse and Grimmaische Strasse, featuring limestone cladding and architectural details from 1911.
Architects Arthur Johlige and August Hermann Schmidt designed this structure for Bamberger & Hertz menswear store, completed in 1911 by the Königsbau construction company.
The building now houses several university institutions, including the Egyptian Museum Georg Steindorff and the Ancient Oriental Institute, contributing to Leipzig's educational landscape.
Located in central Leipzig, the eleven-story reinforced concrete structure underwent facade restoration in 2001 and interior modernization between 2007 and 2010.
The tower design draws inspiration from St Mark's Campanile in Venice and features bell-ringer sculptures by Josef Wackerle above the main structure.
