Specks Hof, Commercial building with passages in central Leipzig, Germany
Specks Hof is a six-story commercial building with passages in central Leipzig that connects three glass-covered courtyards through barrel-vaulted corridors. The ceilings feature embossed copper decorations and stone ornaments throughout.
The site was purchased in 1908 by merchant Paul Schmutzler and architect Emil Franz Hänsel, replacing an earlier building known as Nuremberg House. It became a significant commercial center in the city.
White terracotta panels by Peter Makolies and decorative frieze work adorn the interior spaces, creating an artistic quality within the passages. Visitors can notice these details as they walk through the connecting corridors.
The building is accessible from multiple streets through basket arch entrances, making it easy to enter from different directions. You can walk through the passages freely to explore the corridors and courtyards.
One of the oldest surviving shopping arcades in Leipzig runs approximately 82 meters along Schuhmachergäßchen street. This historic corridor remains a testament to the city's retail heritage.
