Berlinische Galerie, Art museum in Kreuzberg, Germany
The Berlinische Galerie is an art museum housed in a converted glass warehouse with two levels displaying modern art, photography, and architectural works. The building provides space for a diverse collection presenting art forms from different artists and periods.
The museum was founded in 1975 and grew from a local art space into the State Museum of Modern Art. Since its opening, it has documented artistic development in Berlin since the 1870s.
The name reflects Berlin's long artistic history and its role as a creative center. The collection shows how artists here shaped movements like Dada and New Objectivity, with these spaces continuing to honor that legacy today.
The museum is located at Alte Jakobstraße 124-128 and offers guided tours and audio guides for visitors. Reduced admission is available for students and seniors, with the exception of Tuesdays when it is closed.
Since January 2022, the museum has integrated an extensive collection of overlooked female artists into its main displays. This shift shows how art institutions are rethinking their collections and filling gaps in art history.
