Ausstellung Eigenheim und Garten, Home and garden exhibition complex in Fellbach, Germany

The Ausstellung Eigenheim und Garten is a complex featuring more than 50 model homes from different manufacturers in Fellbach. Visitors can walk through fully furnished living spaces and explore various construction methods and design approaches.

The Fellbach exhibition opened on 12 June 1971 as the first permanent model-home show in Europe, with 25 houses, initially called "1. Europäisches Fertighaus- und Schwimmbad-Ausstellungszentrum". Its founder, Ottmar Strebel, also ran a publishing house for construction magazines and prefabricated-house catalogues. A second park followed in 1974 in Wuppertal-Nächstebreck on 77,000 m² with around 60 houses; it closed at the end of August 2013 after the city did not renew the lease. Bad Vilbel opened in 1983, Poing in 1999, and the Swiss Home Expo in Suhr in October 2007.

The name "Eigenheim und Garten" pairs the German word for a home of one's own with the garden that comes with it, and the exhibitions are built around that promise: fully furnished model houses in timber-frame construction, mostly by German manufacturers. On the grounds, building-trade firms, financial advisers and land agents present their services alongside the houses. The Fellbach site, opened in 1971, is Germany's oldest permanent model-house park.

The Fellbach site holds 55 model homes, the oldest permanent model-house park in Germany. Homes are mostly built in timber system construction and fully furnished, so you can compare room proportions on foot. Building-trade firms, financial advisers and land agents also present their services on the grounds.

Each model house is fully furnished and livable, allowing visitors to experience actual room proportions and living quality before making building decisions. This hands-on approach gives a realistic impression that plans and renderings cannot provide.
