Kelsterbach station, Railway station in Kelsterbach, Germany
Kelsterbach station is a railway facility in the town of Kelsterbach served by the S8 and S9 lines of the Rhine-Main S-Bahn. The building has two floors made of red sandstone with a gabled roof and rectangular foundation, with the ground level holding passenger spaces and the upper floor containing the stationmaster's living quarters.
The station was built in 1863 along the main railway line and stood outside the village center of that time. Its location where roads to Mörfelden and Rüsselsheim intersected made it an important transport junction for the region.
The station building shows the typical design of the Hessian Ludwig Railway, which you will notice at other stations along this line as well. The red sandstone facade and symmetrical layout reflect the 19th-century building style that still shapes how the structure appears today.
Trains on the S8 and S9 lines depart every 15 minutes, with the S8 heading to Wiesbaden Hauptbahnhof and the S9 to Hanau Hauptbahnhof. Plan for a bit more time if you are traveling during rush hour, as trains are more crowded during these periods.
The upper floor served not only as living quarters for the stationmaster but also as office space for railway administration. This combination of private residence and work functions under one roof was typical of station buildings from that era.
