Bakelite museum Kierspe

The Bakelite Museum is housed in the former District Office and displays more than 5000 objects made from early plastics and synthetic materials. The rooms show the range of these materials through household items, jewelry, toys, and other products from the industrial era.

The museum was established in 2003 and preserves the region's legacy of plastic material production. The collection is based on the work of collector Carl-Heinz Vollmann and documents how these materials developed from the early 1900s onward.

The exhibits show how synthetic materials transformed everyday life for ordinary people. You see objects that once came from natural materials now made from these new industrial substances.

The museum opens in the afternoon on Wednesdays for visitors and remains closed on German public holidays. It is wise to check the exact opening hours before your visit, as they can vary seasonally.
