Burg Dellingen, Waldhausen-Bräunlingen, Schwarzwald-Baarkreis

Burg Dellingen is a castle ruin located on a hillside in the Black Forest region, built from local stone materials. The remains include a sturdy residential tower and portions of the original defensive walls that still stand today.

This fortress was built in the late 11th to early 12th century and ranks among the oldest fortifications in the Baar region. It was constructed to protect trade routes and territorial boundaries of that period.

The name Dellingen comes from the medieval family that ruled from this location. The ruins show how people of that era used fortified structures to display their power and control over the surrounding lands.

Access to the ruin is possible on foot, with the climb partly following forest trails through hilly ground. The best time to visit is during warmer months, when the paths are easier to walk and views of the surrounding area remain clear.

The residential tower's remains feature an unusual ground-level entrance in the north wall, departing from typical medieval entry placements. Additionally, an arrow slit positioned mid-way along the south wall is a detail rarely seen in similar fortified structures from this era.
