Wallfahrtskirche Witterschnee

The Wallfahrtskirche Witterschnee sits west of Löffingen and displays neo-Romanesque design with a gable roof tower that houses two bronze bells. The building is a single-nave church with clean lines and features typical of late 19th-century construction.

The current church was built between 1891 and 1898 to replace an earlier wooden chapel. The original site commemorated a traveler's rescue from a snowstorm that occurred in the mid-1700s.

The church draws pilgrims from surrounding areas during its main feast on September 14, when visitors come to honor a miraculous rescue. The gathering brings together believers who share common devotion at this specific time of year.

The location sits away from main roads and is easiest to reach by car or on foot. May through September offers the best visiting time, when regular gatherings take place.

The original wooden chapel from 1849 still stands next to the stone church and holds votive offerings and religious images. This side-by-side pair shows how this pilgrimage site developed over many generations.
