Burg Neu-Tannegg, Medieval castle ruins near Boll, Germany
Burg Neu-Tannegg is a castle ruin in the Black Forest near Bonndorf, situated on a mountain ridge to the east of the Boll district. The remains show the layout of a medieval fortress with stone walls scattered across the wooded terrain.
The castle was first mentioned around 1160 and changed hands several times before coming under the Counts of Lupfen in 1467. An earlier landslide around 1400 had already damaged the northern section significantly.
The castle served as a seat for various noble families and was linked to the power of the Counts of Lupfen in the region. Visitors walking among the ruins can sense the importance these lords once held in the surrounding valleys.
The ruins lie on a forested mountain ridge and are reachable on foot, though sturdy shoes and caution on uneven terrain are necessary. Access is partly restricted because sections of the walls are unstable and pose a risk of collapse.
The ruins today serve as an important archaeological site that helps researchers understand medieval settlement patterns in the region. Experts continue to study the remains to learn about daily life and defensive structures from that era.
