Langendreer, Administrative district in eastern Bochum, Germany
Langendreer is an eastern district of Bochum located between Dortmund and Witten, comprising residential neighborhoods including Kaltehardt, Langendreerholz, and Ümmingen. The area features two railway stations serving local and regional travel connections.
The name Langendreer originated from the medieval term Threiri around 900 CE, which referred to three early settlement centers in the area. These settlements laid the foundation for the development of the community that exists today.
The former railway station building now houses a cultural center presenting concerts, theater performances, and film screenings throughout the year. This venue has become an important gathering place for community events and social activities.
The district is well served by public transportation through two railway stations and the A40 highway along its northern edge, offering easy access from surrounding areas. Both local trains and major routes connect the area to other parts of the region.
A hospital in the district serves as a teaching facility for Ruhr University and functions as a regional trauma center for the area. This specialized medical facility handles severe injuries and provides advanced care for patients across the region.
