Bavaria Filmstadt, Movie theme park in Grünwald, Germany
Bavaria Filmstadt is a film park with multiple buildings, movie sets, and production studios spread across the grounds near Munich. The different areas are connected by paved paths and feature various attractions to explore.
The park was founded in 1981 as an expansion of the Bavaria Film Studios, where earlier classics like Das Boot and The Neverending Story had been produced. This launch marked the beginning of offering filmmaking as an experience for visitors.
The park displays how German films and television shows are made through hands-on examples. Visitors encounter original sets from well-known productions and learn about the techniques and craftsmanship required to bring scenes to life.
The park is accessible by public transport via Grosshesselohe Isartalbahnhof station, or you can drive and use the parking facilities on-site. Wear comfortable shoes since you will be walking around the grounds.
Visitors can step into actual film scenes using original props and equipment. One standout experience is the chance to ride the famous dragon from The Neverending Story or board the submarine from Das Boot.

Munich can also be explored beyond the usual routes. This collection brings together places where visitors are fewer, but where the city shows itself differently. You’ll find baroque churches like the Asam Church, modern art museums such as Haus der Kunst or Lenbachhaus with its expressionist paintings, and ancient collections in Königsplatz. The city also hides unexpected surprises: the Eisbach wave in the middle of the English Garden, where people surf all year round, the roses in Westpark for a peaceful break, or the royal carriages in Nymphenburg Palace. Some monuments, like the Peace Angel, remind us of lesser-known parts of history. Each place tells a part of Munich that the usual guides don’t mention often.
