Bernheimer-Haus, Neo-baroque residential building at Lenbachplatz, Munich, Germany.
The Bernheimer-Haus is a neo-baroque residential building at Lenbachplatz in Munich, designed in 1889 by Friedrich von Thiersch and Martin Dülfer. The structure features an elaborate facade with ornamental details and stone work that exemplify the architectural style of that era.
Lehmann Bernheimer opened a luxury textile business in this building in 1889 and received an official visit from Prince Regent Luitpold at the opening ceremony. The structure survived World War II destruction and was repurposed for different uses in the years that followed.
The building takes its name from founder Lehmann Bernheimer and still shows traces of its original use as a luxury textile shop on the ground floor. The surrounding buildings and the entire plaza design were shaped by this structure and continue to define the character of this part of the city.
The building is located in a central position at Lenbachplatz and is easily accessible from Munich's city center. The impressive exterior can be viewed well from the plaza, where visitors can take time to explore the surrounding area.
The ground floor was converted into a cinema after the war and later served as a dance hall before taking on other functions. These transformations reflect how the building adapted to changing urban needs and cultural uses over the decades.
