Alte Börse München
Alte Börse München, Architectural heritage monument in Maxvorstadt, Germany.
Alte Börse München is a bank building in Munich's Maxvorstadt district with a four-story sandstone facade decorated with neo-baroque elements typical of the late 19th century. The structure features ornamental details across its exterior that showcase the architectural vocabulary of that era.
Built between 1896 and 1898 from architect Albert Schmidt's designs, this structure initially functioned as the Munich headquarters of Deutsche Bank. War damage required restoration work from 1948 to 1949 that carefully preserved the original architectural character.
The interior features grand staircases and ornamental details from the Gründerzeit period, reflecting 19th-century German craftsmanship traditions. Visitors can observe today how these elaborate decorations reveal the architectural tastes of the banking world at that time.
Located at Lenbachplatz 2-2a in central Munich, the building benefits from convenient public transportation access nearby. Its central position makes it a straightforward stop for those exploring the district's architectural heritage.
The name refers to its function as an exchange building, though it is primarily known as a bank headquarters from its origins. This dual identity reveals a deeper layer of its role in Munich's financial history than the building's appearance alone suggests.
